My First Year as a Published Author

What a whirlwind of excitement it’s been during my first year as a published author!

I feel beyond blessed to finally have my dream job!  On my first post on this site, I noted that this year would bring new challenges and new forks in this road I’ve been traveling.  Little did I realize how true that was.

That road has most definitely been a bit bumpy and potholed and far from smooth. I wish I’d listened to other writers who said I should prepare in advance for the day I sell.  That meant getting a website together, getting involved in social media and learning about how authors promote themselves, and any number of other things that steal time or require an expertise I lack.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get all that accomplished ahead of time.  Which left me instantly, woefully behind as I tried to do all of that at the same time I was working on edits for my first book and writing the next one.  I’m still in the process of learning how to run my own little business – the business of being a writer.  I suspect I’ll be learning it for quite some time!

But it’s been more than worth every second of the chaos.  Holding that first book in my hands was a tremendous thrill, and now I have another about to be released.  I’ve heard from people who have enjoyed my books, which is an amazing feeling.  And I get to sit down and think about my next story, work hard to get it written, and know that someone will actually read it.  How wonderful is that?

This coming May will mark the one year anniversary of my sale to Harlequin Mills & Boon, which is hard for me to believe.  It has certainly been one very fast year!

I wonder what year number two will look like?  Can’t wait to find out!
